Planning Ahead for When You’ll Need Medical Care

It can be challenging to make thoughtful decisions in the heat of the moment when you need medical care.  That’s why it’s so important to plan for your medical care now, before you need it.

This guide provides a quick, practical overview of the healthcare services available through EverTrue’s medical benefit plans. The Quick Reference Card encourages team members to plan ahead for where you will seek care when medical needs arise by listing two nearby in-network urgent care centers on a wallet card for fast decision-making.  

Planning ahead now can save you a lot of money so that you don’t instinctively visit the ER when the ER is not the most appropriate site of care to visit.  The helpful guide highlights several key resources:

• Anthem’s NurseLine – A free, confidential 24/7 phone service offering advice from registered nurses. “Call the free and confidential NurseLine for advice from a qualified registered nurse anytime…”

• Primary Care Providers (PCPs) – Stresses the importance of having a PCP to support ongoing health needs.

• Telehealth (Virtual Visits) – Outlines the advantages of online medical visits via computer, tablet, or smartphone.

• Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room – Explains the difference in the two. Urgent Care is for issues needing attention within 24–48 hours but not life‑threatening, while ERs treat serious or life‑threatening conditions requiring immediate intervention.

• Anthem Provider Network – EverTrue’s benefits include a wide network of physicians, urgent care centers, and hospitals, and provides guidance on checking whether a provider is in-network.
